Summary:Big and sweeping, spanning from the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who poses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.
Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training, and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.
When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and then when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.
But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands…
My Thoughts: Seriously I LOVED THE GLITTERING COURT!!! One of the best books I’ve read this year! I can see this becoming a favorite series of mine! I just loved it and enjoyed every second of it.
The Glittering Court reminded me a bit of the Selection series, maybe just how it was written. I loved the scenes, I felt like I was right there. I loved the plot. I loved the story-line. I loved the romance.
We are introduced to Adelaide who is a countess and has led a somewhat luxurious and rich life. She’s never had to worry about much or being taken care of. But when her family wants to marry her off, she figures out another plan. She will take the place over of somewhat else and join the Glittering Court. Honestly, it’s kind of the same situation as getting married off, but generally the girl gets to pick the best candidate.
Well, Adelaide has a hand up on most of the girls. She’s been trained on how to act like a real lady. She’s got most of it down, except for a few things. Like her hair! HAHAHAHA
Gosh, I want to say so much about this one, but I’m having trouble without spoilers! I really liked a few of the guys in this story. But I really liked Cedric. He was just so nice but yet charming. He had good morals. He had a good head on his shoulders. And he was just so sweet!
I also liked her friends. A few of them but each girl was so distinct and different from one another. But yet they all fit together.
The Glittering Court was a sweet and charming book. I don’t know rather to say it’s really a romance or fantasy. Made me feel like both I guess.
Overall: This is a rather vague and short review. I didn’t want to give away actual things that go down in the book! Lets just say I loved the characters, the plot, and the romance. A few times I teared up, I laughed, and mostly I swooned!
Cover: Love it! Kind of a dark yet intriguing cover!
What I’d Give It:
