Summary: Danger is hard to resist in this sexy thriller from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.
Britt Pheiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn’t prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.
Britt is forced to guide the men off the mountain, and knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there…and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.
But nothing is as it seems, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?
Black Ice is New York Times bestselling author Becca Fitzpatrick’s riveting romantic thriller set against the treacherous backdrop of the mountains of Wyoming. Falling in love should never be this dangerous…
My Thoughts: I haven’t read the Hush Hush books yet! I know I should, and I will soon!
But I figured I would give Black Ice a chance anyway. And I really enjoyed it.
We are introduced to Britt and her best friend Corbie. Honestly from the beginning I didn’t like her friend. She was self centered and kind of a snob. I did like Britt but at times she was a little annoying too but I got over that.
Britt used to date Corbie’s brother Calvin. Calvin seemed like an ok guy. He had his problems, like dumping her. He just seemed like a typical college guy to me. Britt and her friend go on a trip to Teton Range. Basically its a mountain area and Britt wants to hike it. Its cold and snowy out and its quite a hike, but she figures they will do a little bit at a time and go from there. Britt seems prepared enough. She packs the necessities and Calvin will also be around to help. He’s good in the outdoors. And of course these just aren’t any mountains. A few murders have taken place around this area.
Well, Britt and Corbie never make it all the way there. Their car gets stuck and they set out on foot to find a house to find help. Well, things don’t go as planned. They stumble upon a house where two guys are staying.
I was instantly drawn to one of the guys. Mason. Oh Mason, how I really did like you.
Well, the girls end up being held hostage. Britt is taken and demanded to guide both the boys off the mountain. Apparently they are in trouble for something and Britt can help them get out of the mountains to continue their way on the run.
I wasn't really sure what to think of this one at first. I felt like I said a lot of what happened up above but it didn’t even begin to cover half of the story. There were so many details that made the story what it was. Murders, craziness, and romance.
Calvin wasn't what I thought he would be. It quite surprised me. But I was also surprised at how much I liked Mason, even though he was kind of the bad guy (kinda, right?). I couldn’t believe how things ended but it made sense. And at times Britt did some stupid things but she also handled things quite well for her situation.
I really did like Black Ice. I thought it was a good mystery-romance. I felt myself rushing through it and I read it within a day. Things went by pretty fast.
I was surprised at what some of the characters did, and I was happy with the ending.
Overall: I really enjoyed this one! I liked the characters and the plot! I also liked how it took place in the mountains and I felt like I was really there with Britt exploring the wilderness!
Cover: Like it! It would catch my eye in a bookstore!
