Summary:Downton Abbey meets Cassandra Clare in this lush, romantic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White.

“I did my best to keep you from crossing paths with this world. And I shall do my best to protect you now that you have.”

Jessamin has been an outcast since she moved from her island home of Melei to the dreary country of Albion. Everything changes when she meets Finn, a gorgeous, enigmatic young lord who introduces her to the secret world of Albion’s nobility, a world that has everything Jessamin doesn’t—power, money, status…and magic. But Finn has secrets of his own, dangerous secrets that the vicious Lord Downpike will do anything to possess. Unless Jessamin, armed only with her wits and her determination, can stop him.

Kiersten White captured readers’ hearts with her New York Times bestselling Paranormalcy trilogy and its effortless mix of magic and real-world teenage humor. She returns to that winning combination of wit, charm, and enchantment in Illusions of Fate, a sparkling and romantic new novel perfect for fans of Cassandra Clare, The Madman’s Daughter, and Libba Bray.

My Thoughts:  I liked this one but I didn’t love it as much as I hoped.

We are introduced to Jessamin who just moved to Albion. She’s basically on her own and attending school. She wants an education more than anything else right now. She also holds down a job in her spare-time when she’s not studying. One day she meets a boy named Finn. Finn is cute and really sweet and Jessamin finds herself more attracted to him than she likes. But, she also thinks he’s kind of arrogant and a jerk.

Well, she ends up in his presence more than she likes at first. She’s kind of been thrust into his life and she’s none too happy about it.

She also finds out there is more to life than meets the eye and there are spells or magic. And not everyone is good who practices it.

I didn’t like Lord Downpike at all! From the first moment I met him! He totally creeped me out! But I liked Finn and I also liked how the bird could turn into a book. How cool is that?

I liked the plot of this one, and the characters and I thought it was mysterious and a little weird. It is somewhat historical but I actually enjoyed it.

It wasn’t my favorite of Whites books that I have read. I still enjoy the Paranormalcy series more but I did enjoy this one and will keep reading what she writes.

Overall: Liked it! It was a bit weird but in a good way! I really liked Finn and Jessamin together! I also liked some of the minor details as well! And I was satisfied with how everything ends!

Cover:  Love it!! I would go right for it at the bookstore! I like this cover!

What I’d Give It:

His name is Lord Downpike, I feel like you HAVE to hate him with a name like that! XD
