Summary: Annie Fleet, master scuba diver and history buff, knows she can’t fight her nerd status as a freshman at her Los Angeles private school. And she doesn’t care—except for the fact that her crush, Josh, thinks she’s more adorable than desirable. Annie is determined to set him straight on their school trip to Mexico. But her teacher has other plans: he needs Annie to help him find Cortez’s lost-long treasure.
Suddenly, Annie finds herself scuba diving in pitch-black waters, jetting to Hawaii with Josh, and hunting for the priceless Golden Jaguar. But Annie and Josh aren’t the only ones lured by the possibility of finding the greatest treasure ever lost at sea. Someone else wants the gold—and needs Annie dead. In deeper danger than she ever imagined, can Annie get the boy and find the Jaguar, or is she in over her head?
Critically-acclaimed author Coert Voorhees delivers breathtaking romance and non-stop action in his newest novel, the spirited and captivating In Too Deep.
My Thoughts: I thought I was going to love this one. It sounded like something I would deeply enjoy. I did enjoy it to an extent but not as much as I had hoped.
We are introduced to Annie who is a high schooler and scuba diver. She gets assigned a project on the Golden Jaguar and does pretty good on it. She’s interested in it and wants to know more about it. She also has a crush on a boy named Josh. He’s cute and his mom is a movie star so he’s pretty well known.
Annie isn’t poor but she also isn’t rich so she doesn’t think she’s up to Josh’s level. He’ll never really be into her.
Annie and Josh are a part of a trip that is going to Mexico to help clean up. While there, she gets more than she bargains for and almost ends up dead.
She makes a huge discovery and tries to keep it to herself for a while. That is until she ends up sharing it with none other than Josh.
Josh and Annie sure to do know how to get crazy! They know where to find trouble and seem to find it a lot.
I didn’t like this one as much as I thought I would. It sounded really cool because it was part mystery and part love story. But I just had a hard time connecting with the characters and the plot. Maybe it was just my reading mood but I found myself wanting to read other things as well. It’s kind of weird, because I was dying to read this one.
It is a fun book but it just wasn’t for me I guess at the moment. Honestly, I just think I wasn’t in the mood for a mystery or I didn’t care much about the Golden Jaguar or finding it.
Overall: It was just ok. I think a lot of others will enjoy this one though so give it a shot anyway. I did finish it and it was ok. Just had a hard time connecting.
Cover: Like the cover. Like how we see the sand and the scuba diving gear. It’s cute.
What I’d Give It:
