Summary: 1. Never trust anyone.

2. Remember they are always searching.

3. Don’t get involved.

4. Keep your head down.

5. Don’t fall in love.

Five simple rules. Ariane Tucker has followed them since the night she escaped from the genetics lab where she was created, the result of combining human and extraterrestrial DNA. Ariane’s survival—and that of her adoptive father—depends on her ability to blend in among the full-blooded humans in a small Wisconsin town, to hide in plain sight at her high school from those who seek to recover their lost (and expensive) “project.”

But when a cruel prank at school goes awry, it puts her in the path of Zane Bradshaw, the police chief’s son and someone who sees too much. Someone who really sees her. After years of trying to be invisible, Ariane finds the attention frightening—and utterly intoxicating. Suddenly, nothing is simple anymore, especially not the rules…

My Thoughts: I liked this one a lot, but there were some parts that I had trouble really getting into it.

We are introduced to Ariane who isn’t exactly human. She spent the first few years of her life in a room being studied. Not much fun for a kid. She could move things with her mind and do other things, and the people who kept her wanted her to do bigger things with her gifts. Until one day she breaks out with the help of one of the guys inside. He becomes her “father” and takes care of her.

Until she is a teenager and things start to go haywire. She has a best friend named Jenna and she will do anything to protect the ones she cares about. Jenna is being picked on by a girl Ariane despises so she tries to stick up for Jenna but in the process she unleashes some strange things, like the lights flickering.

And then there is Zane. Sweet sweet Zane. Zane sees something in Ariane nobody else does. She mysterious but not like any of other girls so Zane wants to learn more about her.

I think Zane and Ariane were sweet together. I liked the way they interacted. They never judged one another. They had chemistry.

Ariane has always been in the shadows, hiding. She can’t let the people who kept her before find her. She has to live a somewhat boring life and not stand out.

This one was kind of crazy, but in a good way. I enjoyed it quite a bit. There were a few times things got too detailed about what was going on with the experiments and I wasn't too fascinated with it but overall I really liked the story.

And the ending, now I want the next book in the series. I must find out what happens next.

Overall: Liked it alot. I also read one of Kade’s other books and enjoyed it so I was hoping I’d also like this one and I did!

Cover: Its cute! Love how we can see both a girl and guy. Cute and appealing cover.

What I’d Give It:

I wonder if the cover for the second book will focus more on a boy's face with a girl's in the background-that would be a cool counterpart...I enjoyed this story a lot too. The dual narration was very effective.

I really like this author's books so I can't wait to dive into this one. I know a lot of people had some issues with it as I haven't read a five star review of it yet but I'm still excited for it.

Thanks for the great review. Glad you liked it and are looking forward to more. :)
