City Of Ashes by Cassandra Clare
Release Date: March 24, 2009
Publisher: Margaret K McElderry
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 496
Summary: Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.
To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?
My Thoughts: Right after I finished City Of Bones, I had to start City Of Ashes. And now after that ending, I want to start the third right away!
We are back with Clary and all her gang. They are trying to stop the bad guy and a bunch of obstacles stand in the way. Some people don't trust Jace anymore and there are more rivals throughout this novel than friends.
City Of Ashes is another book you need to read. I haven't been this engrossed in a series since I read the Hunger Games.
I love all the characters even more than I did when I read the first book. These books are so amazing and addicting.
This is another short review, to say I loved this book. I don't want to give anyone any real spoilers and the people who haven't read this novel need to read it. I think it would be even better if I hadn't known a key detail when I started this series. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. I had heard it on twitter and it would have been so much more stunning to find out if I hadn't started the book already knowing.
Overall: Loved loved loved loved it! Did I mention that I loved it? Great series! Need more now!
Cover: Like it. Love her red hair and how it looks wild!

I liked this book more than City of Bones. The ending does have a nice cliffhanger, haha! I'm surprised you didn't say anything about Clary/Jace's... er, relationship. Glad you're loving the series!
I just finished reading Catching Fire and I LOVE it, do to hear you say that this series is good like, The Hunger Games, is awesome!
I really need to get going on this series! I just loved Clockwork Angel, so I am sure I would love this one as well.
This is a great series=) The only down side to them is that they leave me hanging and wanting more!
I read this series right before I read the hunger games and I couldn't agree more. That was an amazing 6 book streak for me. This series was acutally the first series I reviewed on my blog, so it holds a special place for me.
Great review. Can't wait to see what you think about the 3rd book.
I'm still not all out in love with this series. I thought book one was good, book two was great but not in love yet. I have heard that book three is many people's favorite so maybe I will fall in love by then. Idk maybe I'm just being a harsh reviewer when it comes to this series.
Thanks for the great review.
Yes, I'm completely in love with this series as well. I was absolutely hooked!
So glad to hear it is as good as the first.
