My Thoughts: I'm always a little weary going into mermaid tales. I either really love them or not so much. This one was right in the middle. I did enjoy it a lot but there are a few mermaid books that come to mind that I enjoyed a little more, such as Siren.
In Between The Sea and Sky we are introduced to Esmerine and her sister Dosia who are mermaids and live in the sea. Dosia has been a siren for a while now but Esmerine has been chosen to become a siren and now is her shining chance. As soon as she becomes a siren, Dosia disapperas and Esmerine doesn't know what to think. She wonders where her sister went, was she captured, tricked, or simply ran away?
Esermine decides to go on land and look for her. She meets up with her old friend Alandare who is a winged person. He can fly and they both share a love of reading.
I loved how determined she was to find her sister. Even though it hurts to walk (to have human legs) she puts the pain aside and looks for Dosia. I loved the friendship between Esermine and Alandare. I loved how these two very different creatures fell in love with each other.
Between The Sea and The Sky was an enjoyable read. I loved the characters and the plot. I also loved how easy this book was to read. The story flowed nicely.
I really hope that I can find more mermaid books to read. Any suggestions?
Overall: Between The Sea And The Sky was a fun enjoyable book. I love the whole concept behind these one. I love how its told from the sea, its like we are really down underwater with Esemerine. When we come to land with her, it also feels like I'm going through everything she is. It was such a creative novel! The world building was detailed and awesome. This was a magical, enchanting, old fashioned fantasy novel.
Cover: Love it. It's so pretty! I love the green colors and even how it looks like the wind is catching her hair and blowing it everywhere.

Unpopular opinion time...I wasn't really a fan of this one. The premise was interesting and I liked the whole "sea loving the sky" metaphor, but I just wish Jaclyn had given more depth to her characters and stronger world building/mythos.

This is definitely one I'm really looking forward too! I LOVE the cover and love the elements and the idea of the story. The FEEL of the summary makes me think of perfect fairy tales and I'm totally excited for this one!
