Soul Thief (Demon Trapper’s Novel) by Jana Oliver
Release Date: August 30, 2011
Publisher: St. Martin’s Griffin
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 320
Summary: Riley Blackthorne is beginning to learn that there are worse things than death by demon. And love is just one of them…
Seventeen-year-old Riley has about had it up to here. After the devastating battle at the Tabernacle, trappers are dead and injured, her boyfriend Simon is gravely injured, and now her beloved late father’s been illegally poached from his grave by a very powerful necromancer. As if that’s not enough, there's Ori, one sizzling hot freelance demon hunter who’s made himself Riley’s unofficial body guard, and Beck, a super over-protective “friend” who acts more like a grouchy granddad. With all the hassles, Riley’s almost ready to leave Atlanta altogether.
But as Atlanta’s demon count increases, the Vatican finally sends its own Demon Hunters to take care of the city’s “little” problem, and pandemonium breaks loose. Only Riley knows that she might be the center of Hell’s attention: an extremely powerful Grade 5 demon is stalking her, and her luck can't last forever…
My Thoughts: Wow, Soul Thief knocked The Demon Trapper's Daughter right out of the water! If you haven’t read The Demon Trapper’s Daughter yet, stop reading this! This may contain spoilers! We are back with Riley Blackthorne and her vengeful mission to find out who has her father. After the fight at Tabernacle, Simon is hurt and is a different person, her father is missing, trappers are dead including Ethan, and others are trusting Riley less and less.
This novel follows Riley on her quest to find out where her dad went after he was taken against the rules. We see more of Riley's best friend Peter finally. That was very refreshing, seeing this awesome friendship. Beck is also around, still looking out for Riley and realizing he might care about her more than he thought. Simon makes his appearances even though in every one, I wanted to slap him. After what Riley did for him, I can't believe he thinks she's evil now. I know he doesn't "know" but I still hated that he was this way.
Than there is Ori. What the heck is wrong with this guy? I really liked him at first but by the end I was so mad at him. Why, why, why?
I love the character of Riley. I love how tough she is. I love her personality. She is a kick ass heroine! I also love all the side characters, I love all the masters, I love all the other trapper's, I love Riley's dad. I love Peter, I love all the guys!
Soul Thief was another awesome book and I can't wait for the third to come out! I want to know what happens next!
Overall: Another really great book. This one definitely out-shined the first. Who says sequels are never as good as the first book? This isn't the case with Soul Thief! It was awesome!
Cover: Love it! Much more appealing than the first one! I like how we can see Riley's face and her body. It's really neat!
