Between Here And Forever by Elizabeth Scott

Between Here And Forever by Elizabeth Scott
Release Date: May 24, 2011
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 256

Summary: Abby accepted that she can’t measure up to her beautiful, magnetic sister Tess a long time ago, and knows exactly what she is: Second best. Invisible.

Until the accident.

Now Tess is in a coma, and Abby’s life is on hold. It may have been hard living with Tess, but it's nothing compared to living without her.

She's got a plan to bring Tess back though, involving the gorgeous and mysterious Eli, but then Abby learns something about Tess, something that was always there, but that she’d never seen.

Abby is about to find out that truth isn't always what you think it is, and that life holds more than she ever thought it could..

My Thoughts: We are introduced to Abby who just isn't as perfect as her older sister Tess. Abby spends her days going to school, coming home from school, and going straight to the hospital to spend the evening with her sister. Tess is in a coma and has been for a while now. The doctors tell her family there is a slim chance she will wake up and if she does, she'll have brain damage. Abby can only sit and hope that Tess wakes up and is ok. Abby is normal and shy, but in her eyes Tess is the beautiful, smart, and perfect one. Whats a little sister without the big sister who shines so brightly?

Abby enlists the help of Eli to help wake Tess up. She believes that everytime he talks, Tess responds to him through eye movements so she gets Eli to come to the room almost everyday to visit Tess. Eli is an awesome boy. He was sweet and had his own problems he had to deal with.

I loved the relationships throughout the books. They were all magically crafted and beautiful. Family relationships, romantic relationships, and friendships.  As with Scott's previous work I also adored Between Here And Forever. I won't say much else because this is a book you need to read yourself and not read the whole plot in my review. Please please go out and buy this book as soon as you possibly can and experience Abby's journey with trying to help her sister and experiencing emotions she's never felt before!

Overall: I really enjoyed it! I didn't love it quite as much as Scott's other books but I did still enjoy reading it. It is definitely different from her others, but what do you expect from the author of Living Dead Girl? Awesome story!

Cover: Love the cover! Love how she is laying down! Love that big flower!

Awaken By Katie Kacvinsky

Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky
Release Date: May 23, 2011
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin for Children's Books
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 352

Summary: In the year 2060, everything is done digitally. Kids no longer go to schools. They stay home and take classes online. Adults work from home, too. Even dating is no longer done in person. Why walk on a real beach when you can stroll down a digitally remastered one instead? No bad weather, no seagulls, nothing real to ruin a perfectly fine time.

Though she's grown up in this digital world, something about being cut off from everyone doesn't sit right with seventeen-year-old Madeline. Her favorite activity--the only one she does off line--is soccer. She likes the physicality of it and the comradery with the other girls.

Then she meets Justin. He, too, prefers life off line. It's all he talks about. He even takes her out to a real coffee shop and an underground club. Maybe it's his attentiveness, or the physical closeness of actually being with someone, or just that he's very good looking, Maddie is definitely drawn to him. But there's also something very aloof about him, like perhaps he's hiding something.

When Maddie uncovers the truth, she's faced with the question: What's more important, fighting for what you believe in or love?

My Thoughts: Wow, I can't believe how much I love these books that are based on what the world could be like. We are introduced to Maddie whose dad controls the online education system. Maddie never has a reason to leave home, she can do everything online and just with a simple click. She goes to school online, she shops online, she takes a chatwalk online, she does everything digitally. Maddie is intelligent, likable, beautiful but she's also brave. Just a few years ago, she tried to take down her father. She doesn't really believe in everything he believes in and she wants to see the outside world a bit more.

She than meets Justin. Justin is not exactly who she thinks he is. She finally agrees to meet him in a tutoring session after a few months of talking online. Justin starts off being her friend but she notices that theres more to him and his motives. Yes, he does like like her but he also needs her help taking down her father.

Maddie starts to rebel and hangs out more and more with Justin. She longs for him. She starts falling in love with him. Justin is so aloof, he isn't very emotional. He has to keep to himself a lot to avoid getting his feelings torn since he travels so much.

Its also surprising who his parents end up being! To say the least, I loved Awaken. It was like nothing I have ever read before. It was beautiful. It was emotional. My favorite scene was at the club where Maddie put her arms around Justin. The whole scene was beautiful.

Overall: Awaken is a book you should definitely read this year! You never know, the future may end up just like this!

Cover: Love It! Its really radiant!

Summary: Aura’s life is anything but easy. Her boyfriend, Logan, died, and his slides between ghost and shade have left her reeling. Aura knows he needs her now more than ever. She loves Logan, but she can’t deny her connection with the totally supportive, totally gorgeous Zachary. And she’s not sure that she wants to.
Logan and Zachary will fight to be the one by her side, but Aura needs them both to uncover the mystery of her past—the mystery of the Shift.
As Aura’s search uncovers new truths, she must decide whom to trust with her secrets…and her heart.

My Thoughts: Wow, I did not think I could love Shift as much as I loved Shade. I ended up loving it even more. Shift was full of tears, happiness, anxiety, love, fear, romance, family.

In Shade we were introduced to the world of anyone under 18 can see ghosts. In Shift, we start to discover why the Shift happened. Aura and Zach are trying to find out why they are in the middle of it and how it effects them. Logan is also back and for 15 minutes every so often he becomes solid. A real live person with a body! A body that Aura can touch and kiss. A body that can play music again and sleep. Intense right? Aura's feelings are jumbled because not only does she have feelings for both Zach and Logan but a third mystery guy comes into the picture and not who you would expect. Talk about a love triangle

In Shift, Logan's family is dealing with his being gone (sorta), Zach and Aura are dealing with their feelings for each other, Logan is trying to cope with letting Aura move on (even though he really isn't dealing well or letting her) and Aura is trying to find out more about her mother. Who was her mother really? Did she know Zach's father? Were they connected?

As Aura gains speed on finding out her mother's secrets, there are certain people who don't want her to know the truth. For some of the book, Aura and Zach are trying to find out secrets and on the run from people on their tail.

Instead of enough questions being answered, more questions are asked. I want to know the answer to all my questions. As Shade ended on a cliffhanger, and Shift also had a cliffhanger. Enough of one, that made me want to go see Zach!

My favorite scene was Aura and Zach in the water! How awesome was that? How romantic was it? Oh Yes!!

Whats more to say? A LOT! I want Shine right now! I want to know what happens next! I loved Shift. I loved how beautiful it is. I cried a few times, I smiled a lot of times. I laughed a few times! I yelled a few times.

Shift was amazing, full of beauty, and the 3 boys within it, are HOT! Every single one of them! HOT!

Overall: Loved! Wish I could get my hands on Shine right now! Loved Aura and her boys!

Cover:This cover is just as gorgeous as Shade's cover! These covers are perfect.

My Life Undecided Giveaway

My Life Undecided by Jessica Brody Giveaway!

Summary: PLEASE READ THIS! MY LIFE DEPENDS ON IT!

Okay, maybe that was a bit melodramatic, but I’m sorry, I’m feeling a bit melodramatic at the moment.

Here’s the deal. My name is Brooklyn Pierce, I’m fifteen years old, and I am decisionally challenged. Seriously, I can’t remember the last good decision I made. I can remember plenty of crappy ones though. Including that party I threw when my parents were out of town that accidentally burned down a model home. Yeah, not my finest moment, for sure.

But see, that’s why I started a blog. To enlist readers to make my decisions for me. That’s right. I’m gave up. Threw in the towel. I let someone else be the one to decide which book I read for English. Or whether or not I accepted an invitation to join the debate team from that cute-in-a-dorky-sort-of-way guy who gave me the Heimlich Maneuver in the cafeteria. (Note to self: Chew the melon before swallowing it.) I even let them decide who I dated!

Well, it turns out there are some things in life you simply can’t choose or have chosen for you—like who you fall in love with. And now everything’s more screwed up than ever.

But don’t take my word for it, read the book and decide for yourself. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll scream in frustration. Or maybe that’s just me. After all, it’s my life.

But don’t take my word for it, read the book and decide for yourself. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll scream in frustration. Or maybe that’s just me. After all, it’s my life.

My Thoughts: My Life Undecided was such an awesome read. Brooklyn Pierce aka Brooks has a knack for getting into trouble. Trouble always seems to find her. She can blame it on others, she can blame it on her choices, but trouble is always lurking in the shadows for her. She burned down a model home by throwing a party. It was supposed to be the epic party that would get her well known and make her more popular but instead it just caused her a lot of grief and tears. It isn't just present tense Brooks that gets into trouble. When she was a child she also fell down a mine shaft. Talk about bad luck!

She's now been shunned by her best friend Shayne (who is the Queen B of the school), is in deep water with her parents which results in her grounding, and worst of all she has community service in a nursing home. Yuck! Brooks decides her choices are unreliable and she just can't be responsible for making them anymore. So, she decides to start a blog called My Life Undecided. She posts what is going on, all the decisions that come her way, and let people vote and she follows their votes.

We see a lot of different choices brought up in her life from deciding to join the rugby team and choosing between two novels. This was a fun novel to devour.

Not only do we get to see how Brooks new reputation (or lack of) affects her, we also see how she interacts with the nursing home residents. We see a new side of Brooks.

Is there any romance in this book? Of course! There are two guys in this novel. First there is Hunter who is your typical popular high school boy. He's got smoldering good looks and comes off pretty smooth. He takes a liking in Brooks immediately after meeting her once he arrives to the school.  Than there is Brian. Brian is on the debate team, kind of shy, smart, down to earth, and cute (in his own way).  Of course he also likes Brooks but Brooks never really noticed him much before recently even though he sat behind her in the class she shared with Shayne.

Brooks is at an impass between both guys and can't decide who she likes. And I must say one is as irresistible as the other. Good thing its not Brooks choice anymore, right? She puts the choice up to her loyal blog readers.

I must say my favorite scene out of the whole book was the Truth or Dare scene. Your wondering all about that now, aren't you? It didn't disappoint me at all!  And oh so thrilling!

Want to know what happens with Brooks? What happens with her blog when it hits the big league? The decisions she has to make? What the blog readers have to say? Who Brooks ends up with? Read the book now to find out!

Overall: I really enjoyed My Life Undecided. It was such a cute read. I loved reading about Brooks and her impossible choices. I loved her blog. I loved the boys. I loved the debates. I loved reading about how she wants to make better choices. My Life Undecided was a fun fun fun novel!

Cover: I think the cover is really creative. I like her cool clothes, she looks very stylish. I also like how her finger is up to her face, like she is really thinking about her choices. Its fits the book nicely!

Radiance by Alyson Noel

Radiance (A Riley Bloom Novel) by Alyson Noel
Release Date: August 31, 2010
Publisher: SquareFish
Age Group: Ages 9-12
Pages: 192

Summary: Riley has crossed the bridge into the afterlife—a place called Here, where time is always Now. She has picked up life where she left off when she was alive, living with her parents and dog in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. When she’s summoned before The Council, she learns that the afterlife isn’t just an eternity of leisure. She’s been assigned a job, Soul Catcher, and a teacher, Bodhi, a possibly cute, seemingly nerdy boy who’s definitely hiding something. They return to earth together for Riley’s first assignment, a Radiant Boy who’s been haunting a castle in England for centuries. Many Soul Catchers have tried to get him to cross the bridge and failed. But all of that was before he met Riley . . .

My Thoughts:  I have only read the first book in the Evermore series so I'm not too familiar with Riley or her family yet. But I went ahead and read Radiance anyways. This novel is about a girl named Riley. She lives in Here now. She does what she usually does. Lives with her parents, goes to school, walks her dog, etc.

She is called upon to be a Soul Catcher. Everyone in Here eventually gets placed and gets a job, or task. Riley's is to catch souls. She gets a mentor named Bodhi. She goes on a mission to get the Radiant boy to cross over. It isn't an easy task, as he's been around for ages scaring others away from the task.

Does she complete the task? What happens to Riley next?  This was a really short and fast read. It didn't take me long to finish at all. I also can't give away too much details or I will have summarized the whole book. Has anyone else read this book, how did you feel about it?

Overall: Honestly, I thought I would love this one. It sounded like such a cute book, and a spin-off at that. I was left feeling unsatisfied. It didn't quite live up to my expectations. It was just okay. Maybe it would be better if I read the whole Evermore series first? I guess I might have to try that, before reading Shimmer.

Cover: I love the cover. Its stunning. I even like the dog sitting next to her.

One Hundred Candles by Mara Purnhagen

One Hundred Candles (Past Midnight #2) by Mara Purnhagen
Release Date: February 15, 2011
Publisher:Harlequin
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 240

Summary: It’s taken a long time for Charlotte Silver to feel like a normal teenager. But now that she’s settled in a new school, where she’s made friends who know about her parent’s infamous paranormal investigations, it feels like everything is falling into place. And what better way to be normal than to go on a date with the popular Harris Abbott? After all, it’s not as if Noah is anything more than a friend.

But Charlotte’s new life takes a disturbing detour when Harris takes her to a party where they play a game called One Hundred Candles. It all seems like harmless, ghostly fun. Until the spirits supposedly unleashed by the game start showing up at school. Now, Charlotte, her friends and her family are in very real danger, and the door that she’s opened into another realm may yield deadly consequences.

My Thoughts: We are back with Charlotte, her crazy parents, and her gang of friends! In this installment, Charlotte finally has a date with the cutie Harris, her friendship with Noah is blooming and her life is finally coming together. She's being "normal."

Charlotte ends up going to a party where Harris is present, and he kisses her, really kisses her! At this party, she also participates in a game where everyone goes around and tells a ghost story that has really happened to them or someone they know. With 100 stories, the circle is complete. Within the next few weeks, the stories start coming true, or so everyone thinks. Of course there is more going on than one realizes.

I really loved One Hundred Candles. I liked it a lot more than Past Midnight. I didn't like Harris from the get go. Something about him just rubbed me the wrong way. I am still team Noah all the way. All the other characters are back from Past Midnight and I enjoyed seeing them develop. There were a few predictable parts, but most of it I didn't see coming.

Overall: Honestly,One Hundred Candles was a good followup to Past Midnight. I can't wait to read more about Charlotte and see what happens to her next.

Cover: Isn't that cover awesome? I love it!

Falling Under by Gwen Hayes

Falling Under by Gwen Hayes
Release Date: March 1, 2011
Publisher: NAL Trade
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 336

Summary: Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, Theia knows she's seen Haden before- not around town, but in her dreams.

As the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her closer one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels towards him is stronger than her fear.

And when she discovers what Haden truly is, Theia's not sure if she wants to resist him, even if the cost is her soul.

My Thoughts: We are introduced to Theia who lives with her father. Her mother died a long time ago. Her father is very strict and conservative and expects Theia to be the same way. He is very strict on her, not allowing her much independence or freedom. She is from a small town called Serendipity Falls and is in high school. She has two best friends named Donny and Ame. The girls really care about Theia and try to look out for her as best as they can.

A mysterious new boy enters Theia's dreams. His name is Haden Black and he is handsome, dangerous, and alluring. Theia starts to dream about him and she doesn't understand the dream. Than the next day she sees him at school! How ironic that she dreamt of him and now he's at her school. Theia can't figure out how that can even be possible.

Come to find out, Haden isn't human and he really is dangerous. He was sent to earth to bring back a human bride and he choose Theia long before he came up! Theia starts a romance with him both in and out of her dreams and their paths intertwine. Theia starts to go to the underworld (thats basically what it is) and while she's there she meets Haden's mother and boy let me tell you she was evil! I won't say much else about the plot unless I will give away everything!

I'll finish by saying that it took me a while to get into Falling Under. At first, I was reminded of Personal Demons which I read a few months ago. Maybe if I hadn't read it as of late, Falling Under wouldn't have seemed so much like it. There were a lot of similarities; take for example the strict upbringing but there were also a lot of differences (for example, minus the love triangle from Personal Demons).

The storyline felt slow at first and it took me a while to get into it. By the middle of the book I couldn't wait to keep reading to find out what Haden really was or what exactly his problem was. Did he like Theia or not? Was it all a game or did he know something we didn't? And I liked seeing Theia grow up a little bit and gain some independence.

Overall: I really enjoyed Falling Under. Once the story picked up, it was a wonderful read. It was truly beautiful in its own way.

Cover: Beautiful beautiful cover! Love it!

Desires Of The Dead by Kimberly Derting

Desires of The Dead (Body Finder #2)  by Kimberly Derting
Release Date: February 15, 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 368

Summary: The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.

When Violet Ambrose's morbid ability to sense the echoes of those who've been murdered leads her to the body of a young boy, she draws the attention of the FBI. She is reluctantly pulled into an investigation that will endanger more than just her secret...but her relationship and possibly her life as well.

My Thoughts: Once again we are back with Violet and her hectic abilities. Remember, from The Body Finder we found out she can hear echoes from dead people, the ones who died; murdered. It isn't just people she can hear, she can also hear animals. She can also sense the people who committed the crime since the imprint attaches to them. Creepy? Yes! Useful? Sometimes!  Violet is trying to adjust to life just being herself and spending time with Jay. She was always so used to having him as her best friend, now they are adjusting to being boyfriend and girlfriend!  There is a new guy and girl in town, siblings. Jay befriends them and we get to know their family history and a little about them.

Of course Violet can't get away from the imprints, she hears one and calls the police. Come to find out, someone was in the place she heard it. And the FBI tracked down Violet from her phone call. Now the FBI wants to work with her. There is also a boy about her age working for the FBI.

We also get to read a few pages here and there from the other narrator just like we did in The Body Finder. It was very interesting to hear their opinion.

What can I say? I really loved Desires Of The Dead. I read it in one sitting late at night. It's a bit creepy but in a good way. I still love Jay but I found myself drawn to the new boy and his special "talent." I hope to learn more about him in future books.

Someone is also stalking Violet. They leave her a dead cat, a note, and they overall stalk her. There is also the mystery of where the new kids mother went. That is what the book mainly focuses on.

I won't say much more or else there won't be any reason for you to read the book!

Kimberly Derting knows how to suck you in, satisfy you while reading, and leave you wanting more!

Overall: I loved Desires Of The Dead. I loved it just as much as The Body Finder and I really loved The Body Finder! I did like the plot a little better in The Body Finder but I also liked this one as well!

Cover: I love the pink cover more than I did the blue! Very artistic!

OyMG by Amy Fellner Dominy

Release Date: May 10, 2011
Publisher: Walker And Company
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 256

Summary:  Jewish girl. Christian camp. Holy moly.

Ellie Taylor loves nothing better than a good argument. So when she gets accepted to the Christian Society Speech and Performing Arts summer camp, she's sure that if she wins the final tournament, it'll be her ticket to a scholarship to the best speech school in the country. Unfortunately, the competition at CSSPA is hot-literally. His name is Devon and, whether she likes it or not, being near him makes her sizzle. Luckily she's confident enough to take on the challenge-until she begins to suspect that the private scholarship's benefactor has negative feelings toward Jews. Will hiding her true identity and heritage be worth a shot at her dream?

Debut author Amy Fellner Dominy mixes sweet romance, surprising secrets, and even some matzo ball soup to cook up a funny yet heartfelt story about an outspoken girl who must learn to speak out for herself.

My Thoughts: When I first heard about this one, I was very excited. Because of the arguing. I love reading about a girl and a boy debating against each other and than starting to "like" each other. It sounded really sweet.

We are introduced to Ellie who is a teenager. She isn't just any normal teenager. Her family is very religious. She comes from a mostly jewish family even though there is a Lutheran in there. Ellie’s father is Lutheran but mother is Jewish.  She gets accepted into the Christian Society Speech and Performing Arts summer camp. This is exciting for Ellie because she believes if she can do good she can get accepted into the best school for speech in the country. She needs this scholarship because its the only way she can go there. The school is too expensive otherwise.

She shows up the first day of camp and goes head to head with Devon, who of course happens to be the grandson of the women running the scholarship. She makes a fool of herself, so much for first impressions.

Ellie and Devon face off and they soon learn to respect each other. Even though they are competing against each other, they try not to let that get in the way of their blossoming friendship. Of course Ellie can't like a guy. She's never been into boys much. She's too focused for that. And, Devon is so gorgeous, there is no way he can like Ellie like that, right???

So many issues arise in this novel. Religion is a big topic. Ellie wants to make her grandfather proud by standing up about Jews, but also doesn't want to lose the scholarship by saying she's not fully Christian. Than, there is also the morals of is it ok to lie if its to get what you want when the person your lying too seems biased? Even if you feel crummy about it? Discrimination presents its big head in OyMG.

OyMG was a nice novel. It dealt with these issues nicely and I liked seeing the relationship between Ellie and her grandfather. We can tell she really really loves him. I also liked watching Devon squirm a few times and the chemistry between Ellie and Devon was hot!

Overall: A nice debut novel! If you like debate, want to know more about religion, or want to see what happens between Ellie and Devon read OyMG now!

Cover: Like it! It does make it feel like a tween novel though, when in reality it is definitely a teen novel. Its cute though.

Summary: After her center-court split with Aiden, Tessa put the SOS behind her. After all, cheaters never prosper! Now she's busy working on her faux-relationship with Aiden and negotiating the unfamiliar waters of “technically single and pseudo-dating.”
Life can't get any more dismal for a one-guy kind of girl until an imposter hijacks the SOS, and it's up to Tessa to save her squad from slander. But with her best boy hot and cold, what's a kitten to do?

Even worse, Tessa doesn't realize how much she's up against—because this copykitten is far more naughty than nice.

My Thoughts: So Many Boys is the second novel in the Naughty List trilogy. We are back with Tessa, but she is no longer the cheer leading captain or caption of SOS. The cheerteam is now headed by Tessa's best friend Kira and there is a copy kitten impersonating SOS. SOS had been put on hold in the past few months.

Tessa is no longer the perky girl we once knew. Her and Aiden are kind of on a "break" since he's away at college and she doesn't have as much pep in her kick.

So Many Boys is full of so much mystery. Every few chapters there is a chapter from the fake SOS's point of view, which makes the book more mysterious and sneaky.

There is a new guy in Tessa's life but he's already taken. Joel, aka Kira's boyfriend. At first Tessa just enjoys his company. He's a sweet guy who always knows the right thing to say to comfort her but she has to watch her back with the copy kitten around. Her friendship may get twisted into something more.

Aiden is also still around but he is sneaking around behind Tessa's back with her former captain. I just didn't like him as much in this book. His actions just made me feel miserable.

Watch your step Tessa! Watch that copy kitten! She just may get you! I kind of expected the copy kitten to be who she was, but I had my doubts and had a few other suspicions as well. I enjoyed So Many Boys and Joel! I want to know what happens next with Joel!

Overall: Liked it a lot! Can't wait to see more of Joel.

Cover: Love it! All these covers are really cute!
