Summary: Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.
As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.
My Thoughts: Wow. I first started reading this book about 4 months ago, read 2o pages and just wasn't feeling it so set it back down. I picked it back up this week to try again and let me just say this, I am so glad I didn't! Hex Hall was an amazing book! I am so glad I gave it a chance. We meet Sophie Mercer who is a witch but isn't too good at magic or even spells. Her spells never go the way she wants them to and she's forced to deal with the consequences of them. Her mom ends up sending her away to a boarding school for magic beings (its for her own good). Sophie isn't exactly thrilled with the idea but what can really do?
Sophie's parents are relatively normal, or so she thinks. Her mom is mortal and just a mom. Her dad, hmm, there is much more to him than meets the eye. I was surprised how much backstory we learn about him.
We meet all the side characters, the 3 girls who are your typical popular girls you tend to hate. The catch, they are also witches. Than there is a vampire who is Sophie's friend. Of course she's the only vampire in the whole school (besides a teacher) so that doesn't do much for Sophie's popular factor. Than there is Archer. Oh Archer, why oh why must you make me swoon? Archer was popular, hot, sexy, charming, but I got the vibe he was a sweet guy. He also has a girlfriend but takes an interest in Sophie.
People die in this story and Sophie discovers important aspects about her family history. There is love, mystery, heartbreak, laughs, curiosity, and everything in between portrayed in Hex Hall.
Honestly, I did not see that ending coming at all. I just sat there for a few minutes and let it all sink in! How crazy was that?
Overall: I loved Hex Hall!!! Such a great book! I loved how there are so many different characters and they are all so much different from one another. I can't wait until Demonglass.

This is my current read, and it's amazing so far!
I LOVE Hex Hall. I'm lucky enough to be reading the second one right now and adore it. The premise could be easily cliche since there are a lot of boarding school/supernatural stories out there but she has a great twist on it and I flew through the first one!
I'm so glad that you liked this book. I just spotted it in our school library yesterday. I'm going to have to grab it ASAP. It seems like a great read for pre-Halloween...Thanks!
The ending totally got me too. I really enjoyed this book. I can't wait for the next one.
