“A flowerless room is a soulless room, to my way of thinking; but even one solitary little vase of a living flower may redeem it.”
-Vita Sackville-West
Lots of people – including Princess Bookie -- ask me, Why flowers? To me, it seems strange that tons of people haven’t written about the magic of flowers. Because I believe it truly exists.
Think about it. Almost every special occasion in your life is marked with flowers. (Or should be!!) Special birthdays like sweet sixteen, rites of passage like a bat mitzvah or confirmation, weddings, Homecoming dances or prom, anniversaries, Mother’s Day – all of these occasions call for flowers.
Why? Because flowers represent our quest for beauty and our hope for the world. No one can help but smile when she is presented with a fresh bouquet. With their delicate perfume, flowers can transform the very air of a room or a yard, and we can breathe in their sweetness. Flowers can also awaken memories and desires, as they do for Laurel and everyone around her in Forget-Her-Nots. We give flowers to connect with each other and to express emotions we might struggle to say out loud. So say it with flowers instead.
Flowers can be magical for us in other ways. If you really stop to examine them and, yes, smell the roses, you’ll see that each delicate bloom is like an exquisite miracle. Adding more flowers to your life can make the details of seem special. I do stop to “smell the roses,” because that act reminds me that I’m here on this earth to connect with people and make the world a more beautiful place.
Personally, I believe the world would be a better place if we all grew and gave each other a lot more flowers.
Thanks so much for having me, Cindy!
Thanks Amy for letting me having the honor of being part of this magical tour!

Hi Cindy. Great post Amy, I agree, we should all take time to "stop and smell the roses" and share more with one another. Nicely written.
