The Splendor Falls

by Rosemary Clement-Moore

Summary: Sylvie Davis is a ballerina who can’t dance. A broken leg ended her career, but Sylvie’s pain runs deeper. What broke her heart was her father’s death, and what’s breaking her spirit is her mother’s remarriage—a union that’s only driven an even deeper wedge into their already tenuous relationship.

Uprooting her from her Manhattan apartment and shipping her to Alabama is her mother’s solution for Sylvie’s unhappiness. Her father’s cousin is restoring a family home in a town rich with her family’s history. And that’s where things start to get shady. As it turns out, her family has a lot more history than Sylvie ever knew. More unnerving, though, are the two guys that she can’t stop thinking about. Shawn Maddox, the resident golden boy, seems to be perfect in every way. But Rhys—a handsome, mysterious foreign guest of her cousin’s—has a hold on her that she doesn’t quite understand.

Then she starts seeing things. Sylvie’s lost nearly everything—is she starting to lose her mind as well?

My Thoughts: We are introduced to Sylvie who is an ex ballerina. She had an accident and it is said she will never dance again. She comes to stay with her aunt for a while in a quiet little town in Alabama all the way from Manhatten. She arrives and meets many different characters such as Shawn who is the resident popular charming boy and than of course there is Rhys, a boy who keeps to himself and is an instant mystery to Sylvie. There are also many side characters, such as the teen council, her aunts cook, Rhys father, etc. Each person is very unique and you will either hate them or love them! I took and instant liking to Rhys, there was just something about him that I thought was sexy and I wanted to know more about him.

From the very beginning this book sucks you in. You want to know what is going to happen, are there really ghosts in the house? What is Shawns deal? Does Sylvie have real feelings for Rhys or is it Shawn she should be with? Is there more to Sylvie than meets the eye? I really loved this book, even though it was long! I read it in a day though, as long as it was!

Overall: Loved Loved Loved It. Loved Sylvie, Loved Rhys. Loved the ending. Loved It!

Cover: It is somewhat creepy and somewhat pretty. I like it!

This book reminds me a little bit of that movie with that ballerina who's mom died and she's moving away to live with her dad, don't know the title..:) But it was a great movie and this sounds like a great book. Thanks for the review.
