Magic Under Glass by Jaclyn Dolamore

Summary: Nimira is a music-hall performer forced to dance for pennies to an audience of leering drunks. When wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to do a special act - singing accompaniment to an exquisite piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it is the start of a new life. In Parry's world, however, buried secrets stir. Unsettling below-stairs rumours abound about ghosts, a mad woman roaming the halls, and of Parry's involvement in a gang of ruthless sorcerers who torture fairies for sport. When Nimira discovers the spirit of a dashing young fairy gentleman is trapped inside the automaton's stiff limbs, waiting for someone to break the curse and set him free, the two fall in love. But it is a love set against a dreadful race against time to save the entire fairy realm, which is in mortal peril.

My Thoughts: This is either going to be a love or hate book for you. I've read good and bad things about it. We meet Nim who is a trouser girl who left home a while back to make money and didn't get as far as she would have liked to go. Things just got hectic for her. She meets a gentleman named Hollin who asks her to come sing for him. Nim goes back to his place and is paired with an automation. She finds out that a fairy is trapped inside the automation. I won't say much more or else you will know the whole plot! I actually liked this book a lot. But, I won't lie, part of me wanted her to end up with the fairy and the other wanted
part wanted her to end up with Hollin. I've heard it both ways from other people as well. The historical part of this book didn't bother me at all (I usually do not like too many historicals). What happens with the automation, what happens to Nim and Hollin? Does she stay or does she go? Read the book now to find out.

Overall: I was really looking forward to reading this for a while, and I'm glad I did so soon. It is a wonderful written book and I hope there is a book 2!

Cover: The cover is alright. I like her hair and the way she is turned. It does look like a historical cover, yet it is cute enough to make you want to give the book a second glance.

My Favorite Phantom by Karen Kelley

Summary: When professor Peyton Cache bought a big, gloomy, romantic Victorian house, he should have expected a ghost. He certainly got one, the kind that likes to float his undies around and drop slime in the stairwell for fun. But the professor can't let the rest of the faculty know he's lost his mind, so he hires a ghost hunter on the down-low. But somehow, when he booked a ghost hunter, he didn't think that he was getting a live-in leggy blonde with an attitude like a Jersey gangster and a body like a pinup poster...Kaci Melton needs to hide out for a while, and where better to disappear than a haunted house on one of her dad's ghost-hunting jobs? All she'll have to do is deal with a crabby old professor for a couple of days and kick out one measly ghost. Two problems: the professor is a tasty young guy with piercing blue eyes, six-pack abs, and a penchant for talking dirty. And the ghost scares the panties off her...actually given the professor, maybe that's not a problem. But if she can't tell him the truth - and she can't - how is she going to get him to keep up all that wonderful sex? Especially when she's starting to kinda like him...

My Thoughts: Let me describe this book in one word: STEAMY! We meet Kaci who is a ghosthunter for her father's business. Usually she is the one sitting behind on the desk organizing his jobs but not this time! She has been hired by a professor who needs a ghost gone now! Of course she goes to his house expecting an old man, but instead finds a hottie, a stud muffin, nice abs, blue eyes. You get the picture, he's gorgeous. The catch; Kaci is afraid of ghosts. This book was great. We get to experience Kaci and Peyton's relationship and get to know them. We begin to understand why Kaci is hiding out looking for the ghosts, we learn more about Peyton, that is sort of a lady's man. This book had it all, romance, comedy, you name it, it had it. Read the book to find out if Kaci gets rid of the ghost, what is the deal with her father, and most importantly what happens between Kaci and Peyton. I highly recommend this book for someone who is looking for hot and steamy romance and/or likes a ghost story.

Overall: Great. I will be reading Karen's other books soon. Perfect for a romance/paranormal fan.

Cover: I love the cover. I always imagine the people on the cover as the characters, don't you? You can get a sense of how cute Peyton is by looking at the cover.

Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking The Spine!

Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs
Release Date: May 2010

Summary:
Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you’re a normal teenage girl, but when you’re half human, half mermaid like Lily, there’s no such thing as a simple crush.

Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid – she’s a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn’t feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she’s been living on land and going to Seaview high school ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems – like her obnoxious, biker boy neighbor Quince Fletcher – but it has that one major perk – Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren’t really the casual dating type – when they “bond,” it’s for life.

Come on, doesn't this look wonderful???? I want it now!

After by Amy Efaw

Summary: An infant left in the trash to die. A teenage mother who never knew she was pregnant . .

Before That Morning, these were the words most often used to describe straight-A student and star soccer player Devon Davenport: responsible, hardworking, mature. But all that changes when the police find Devon home sick from school as they investigate the case of an abandoned baby. Soon the connection is made—Devon has just given birth; the baby in the trash is hers. After That Morning, there’s only one way to define Devon: attempted murderer.

And yet gifted author Amy Efaw does the impossible— she turns Devon into an empathetic character, a girl who was in such deep denial that she refused to believe she was pregnant. Through airtight writing and fast-paced, gripping storytelling, Ms. Efaw takes the reader on Devon’s unforgettable journey toward clarity, acceptance, and redemption.

My Thoughts: I didn't know what to expect as I dove headfirst into this. The book opens up as Devon is sitting on the couch, her mom comes home, and within minutes the police are there taking Devon away. We learn that she has done the biggest trauma of her life and gave childbirth and threw the baby in the trash. I couldn't imagine what Devon was thinking, she was scared and didn't know what else to do, I think at this age, it would be a horrifying thing to go through and not being able to tell anyone you are even pregnant, would be horrible. I liked how we got to learn how Devon had to go through this circumstance. I especially liked hearing about what her stay in the juvenile center was like. I liked the details of how she had to experience everything. Towards the end, I just wanted the best for Devon. I know she made a mistake, but I didn't want to see her spend the rest of her life in prison, because she seemed like a nice girl (good grades, never got into trouble) and she was being sentenced for the biggest mistake of her life. I felt like the author did go into a lot of detail when I just wanted to know what was going to happen to Devon and I wanted to know NOW. haha. She was a scared teenage girl. I usually don't read books like this, I tend to gravitate more towards Paranormal and Romance but every once in a while its nice to get outside the comfort zone. I won't say much else or I'll give away too many spoilers. Read the book to find out what happens to Devon.

Overall: It started out good, I could have done without some of the law facts (I'm a Criminal Justice major so I know most of them anyways). But overall, it was hard reading about Devon because I felt sorry for her, and only wanted her to be safe.

Cover: I think the cover is cute, I like the way she is standing sideways, but this girl still looks a bit older than a teenager.

TV/Movie Tuesday 12/29 (21)

Tv and Movie Tuesdays consist of upcoming movies and tvs shows that must be seen!

This Week's TV Show is:
A Nightmare On Elm Street

Release Date: April 2010

The original "Nightmare" was written and directed by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The new project will keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Freddy Krueger himself.

I love the old movies so this is a must see for me! Katie Cassidy and Kellan Lutz are also in it!

Troy High by Shana Norris

Summary: Narrated by Cassie, a shy outsider who fears that an epic high school rivalry is about to go up in flames, the story follows the Trojans and Spartans as they declare war on the football field. After the beautiful Elena—who used to be the captain of the Spartan cheerleaders—transfers to Troy High and falls madly in love with Cassie’s brother Perry, the Spartans vow that the annual homecoming game will never be forgotten. The Trojans and Spartans pull wicked pranks on each other as homecoming approaches. And the Spartans’ wildcard football star, Ackley, promises to take down the Trojans’ offensive line. But the stakes are raised when Cassie is forced to choose between the boy she loves (a Spartan) and loyalty to her family and school.

My Thoughts: I liked the whole concept of this one. We meet Cassie who goes to one school, her best friend and crush Greg who goes to another. Her brothers that go to her school, Greg's brothers that go to Greg's. Elena was dating Greg's brother but she is now dating Cassie's brother and has become friends with Cassie. The schools began a rivalry on and off the football field. I liked reading about all the pranks they played on each other and I liked Greg and Cassie together. I wanted them to get to the point of being more than friends. This book is a classic retelling of Helen of Troy. Does the rivalry stop between the teams stop? Do Cassie and Greg end up together? Does Elena keep dating Cassie's brother or does she get back together with Greg's? Read the book to find out!

Overall: I liked some parts more than others. But overall, I liked it. I didn't love love it but it was cute enough for a read. Its a fun quick fluffy read.

Cover: I think the cover is cute. I like the cheerleader angle. I would have rather seen Cassie though, I believe this is Elena.

Drive Me Crazy by Erin Downing

Summary: Kate and her two best friends, Sierra and Alexis, are geared up for a week of fun and freedom on the road to their family lake houses in Love, Wisconsin.

Best of all, when Kate reaches Love, she'll be reunited with Lucas, with whom she shared a steamy end-of-summer kiss last year. She can't wait to see Lucas again and pick things up exactly where they left off.

Then Kate gets some seriously bad news: Alexis's sarcastic, condescending, hot-but-he-knows-it cousin is crashing the girls' road trip. Adam bugs Kate in every possible way. Now Kate just wants to get the road trip over with so she can spend the summer in Lucas's arms. But the road to Love is full of surprises....

My Thoughts: We meet Kate and her best friends Alexis and Sierra. All 3 girls are going on a road trip to Wisconsin to their summer vacation spot! They are meeting up with their parents there!!! They have it all mapped out! Fun, girl time, chatting, etc. There is also Adam, Alexis cousin who Kate can not stand! He is annoying and he bugs her to the extreme!! Kate can't wait to get to Wisconsin to see Lucas, the guy she's been crushing on forever and kissed at the end of last summer!!! The ride to Wisconsin puts Kate and Adam in a few laughable romantic situations! They all get to Wisconsin, and Kate finally meets up with Lucas, and things aren't what she thought they would be!! She starts to realize that there might be more to Adam than she thought! I liked Adam from the get go! I could see myself falling for him! What happens to Kate and Lucas? Where does Adam come in? This book was really cute and romantic. There were a few parts that had me smiling to myself, saying awwwwww! This is how every girl wants her prince charming! Read this book now, you won't regret it!

Overall: I love the Simon Romantic Comedies! I still have a few more to read, but they are just so darn cute and perfect for anyone who likes a fun romance book! I really enjoyed this one!

Cover: Its cute! I'm not a big fan of cartoon characters on books, but I still like it!

Ex-Mas by Kate Brian

Summary: Seventeen-year-old Lila Beckwith's parents just left for vacation, and Lila's all set to throw the holiday party of the season. But when her Christmas-obsessed little brother, Cooper, discovers that global warming is melting the North Pole, he and his best friend, Tyler, take off on a runaway mission to save Santa.

Lila has to get Cooper safely home before her parents get back on Christmas Eve. But the only person who can help her is Tyler's older brother, Beau -- a.k.a. Lila's musician, anti-everything ex-boyfriend.

It'll take more than a Christmas miracle for Lila and Beau to overcome their differences and find their fugitive brothers. But could a journey destined for disaster help these polar opposites fall in love...all over again?

My Thoughts: Another great book from Kate Brian. I read Megan Meade's Guide To The McGowan Boys and loved it! This one is just as good, if not better! We are introduced to Lila who has it all, college boyfriend, popular best friend, and all the guys want her and the girl's want to be her! We also are introduced to her annoying little brother Cooper. Well, things go down and Cooper thinks he needs to save Santa so Cooper and his friend Tyler take off to save Santa! Lila gets tangled up with Tyler's older brother Beau aka Lila's ex boyfriend and they have to go after them! Of course I liked Beau from the first mention. He was my kind of guy. The two youngsters hopped on a bus so now Lila and Beau have to drive 7 hours to find them! This book was a bit predictable in places but I still loved it! And the things I wanted to happen, some of them did happen! While others totally blew me away!!! This is the book to read around Christmas time, or even while the weather is still cold! Perfect book for this time of year!

Overall: I loved it! Awesome book! It left me with a big grin on my face saying, awwwwww. I'm so happy! Rush to the store and buy this now! While you at it, also pick up Megan Meade's Guide To The McGowan Boys!

Cover: This cover is amazing! I love it! I love the candy cane and its even shiny and pretty in person!

Duplikate by Cherry Cheva

Summary:Getting into Yale has been Kate Larson’s dream for years—and being overworked and under-rested is the price of admission. But when she opens her eyes after falling asleep on her keyboard one night, she comes face-to-face with, well, herself.

Meet Kate’s computer-generated twin. Kate doesn’t know why she’s here or how to put her back where she belongs, but she’s real. And she’s the last thing Kate has time to deal with right now. Unless. . .could having a double be the answer to Kate’s prayers?

In this hilarious second novel, Cherry Cheva introduces a character who has been granted the wish of every overscheduled teen everywhere—for there to be two of her. But as everyone knows, you should be careful what you wish for...it just might come true and wear all your clothes and steal your boyfriend.

My Thoughts: I didn't know what to expect starting this. I didn't know it I would like it or not. I mean, come on, face it, you don't see too many books with this plot! I liked it a lot more than Cherry's previous book, She's So Money. We are introduced to Kate who is an achievement-a-holic. She feels like she has to do everything perfect to get into the same college as her boyfriend, an IVY league school. She has a popular smart boyfriend named Paul. She never has any free time therefore she never even gets to spend much time with Paul. She falls asleep one night on her keyboard and wakes up to find a computer generated person who looks exactly like her named Rina. Oh my, its the girl from a game she played long ago! Kate starts splitting her work with Rina so she can get more done. She is teamed up with a boy named Jake for a school project. Back in the day, her and Jake used to be good friends but once she got with Paul, Jake just wasn't cool enough anymore. Kate learns she may not want everything she has been trying to do and her life needs to change. I loved the way Kate and Jake's relationship changed and I really enjoyed Rina's company. This book was a cute sassy fun read. It kept me interested and I wanted to know what happened next. Read the book to find out more about Kate and Rina. Read the book to find out if Kate gets accepted into college. And where does Rina go from there????

Overall: Loved it. Cute, fun, smart, delightful.

Cover: The cover is cute. I like how it shows Kate as a person and than Kate as a computer generated image.

Then her dreamy, popular crush surprises her when he starts to act as if he likes her in return. But there's no way Luke Carter could possibly ever like a nobody like Carrie Paxton. Is there?

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

Summary: All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far... and almost doesn't make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge - and over...

My Thoughts: Awesome! We meet Meg who is a typical girl who gets into trouble a lot. She likes to live on the edge a little bit and it tends to get her into trouble. She works at a restaurant of her parents and they just kind of get "by." Her parents have pretty much given up on her with the way she acts. She has an eyebrow piercing, a tattoo, and purple hair. She is a bit wild. She just wants to leave the small town and get out in the world and LIVE! She gets into trouble one night with a group of friends and a few cops/ambulances, typical emergency call; come and arrest them. Each of the teens have to pair up with one of the arresting people. Meg gets stuck with John, the one who actually arrested them that night. She does not like him at first, she doesn't like the authority. He tends to grow on her and she starts having "thoughts" about him but in the back of her mind, she is always wondering why in the world does she like this 40 year old cop? She's only a teen!!! Well, things aren't always what they seem and there is a lot more to John than meets the eye. If you want to know what happens to Meg and John, read the book. Why is John so mysterious, what is his deal? Does Meg ever change her ways? What happens next?

Overall: Loved this one! I couldn't stop reading once I hit the first page! Why aren't there more teenage police officer romance books? Where the teen falls in love with the cop? The only two that come to mind is this one, plus Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott. I want to read another one!!!!! If you can think of one (YA), please let me know!!!

Cover: The cover is what drew me to this book. There is just something about it. I really like it!

The ABC's Of Kissing Boys

by Tina Ferraro

Summary: Parker Stanhope has played soccer practically since she could walk. And now that she’s a high school junior, everything she’s worked for is finally coming together. She’s paid her dues on the field, and as an upperclassman, she’s a shoo-in for the varsity team. But that’s not what happens.

This year, Coach Hartley moved up every JV player but two—and one of those two was Parker. Now, she’s stuck with the freshmen, her friends are cutting her loose, and her love of the game is seriously beginning to fail. But Parker is determined to get her life back. She has to get on the varsity team, and she has the perfect plan. All she needs now is the right kind of coach. A kissing coach.

My Thoughts: We are introduced to Parker who loves soccer and revolves her life around soccer. She is upset she doesn't make varsity so she hatches a plan to get kissed at the kissing booth by last years most hottest popular guy who is now in college. He is also her brother's best friend. Yes, they both are in on it. We are than introduced to Tristan. He is Parker's next door neighbor and is two years younger gradewise than Parker. He's been to camp and knows how to kiss so he offers his service to Parker. He starts to teach her all the different kisses. She soon realizes there might be more to him than she thought since she originally thought he wasn't cool enough to be in her crowd. FYI: Her crowd is the popular girls. Of course Tristan also uses his new found popularity to meet other girls. He figures he should get something out of his lessons. I really liked this book. I devoured it in one sitting. I loved Parker and Tristan together. I loved the way he was teaching her how to kiss and all the different techniques he knows. I loved the references in this book and I loved the feelings that slowly started to develop between them. I didn't like most of Parker's friends. In reality, they were snobs and I would have liked her to stay away from them and realize from the get go they weren't worth her time. I loved this book. If you want to know what happens to Parker, pick this book up now!

Overall: Loved it! I even love the title of this one! Its a fun quick read that will make you smile and want to learn more about Tristan's kissing techniques!

Cover:
I think the cover is awesome. I love that the girl is putting lipstick on. Its a pretty cover.

Magic Hands by Jennifer Laurens

Summary: Cort, the high school senior jock seems to have it all -- except a summer job. When he lands one doing women's nails, his eyes are opened to the catty, back-stabbing world of females. Girls he thought he knew and trusted turn out to shock and use him.

He gets to know Rachel, an elusive girl the others gossip about, a girl with secrets. From her he learns there is more to life than weekend partying and social status, and one of the secrets she shares with him will change his life forever.

My Thoughts: Let me start off by saying, I have been eyeing Jennifer's books for a while but I have not seen any store around here that sells them and I've looked on amazon for them but each one is a bit pricey. 10-11 bucks a piece and that adds up quick. First, let me say they are worth the 10 dollars!!!!! I think if they were 20, I'd still pay it! Sometimes you run into an author and you just fall in love with their words. Thats how I feel about Jennifer right now. I love her books. I love the stories. I love the characters and each one I read I feel myself falling more and more in love with the guys in them. So what if I'm a hopeless romantic and Cort just does it to me!!!!! This is one of those books that you want to know what happens so you want to read each page quickly but at the same time you need to read each word as slow as possible so you can devour it and enjoy each letter.I swear I read each sentence twice because I loved the sweetness of it! We are introduced to Cort who is the guy who has it all; popularity, girl's, he's the one the guys want to be. You know the type, jock, popular friends, the untainable cool guy that every girl dreams about but is too shy to talk too. But he's not just a pretty face, he's charming and real. We than meet Rachel who is a rich girl who is really smart and caring. Cort and Rachel have noticed each other over the years but Rachel says she will never date a jock and Cort has just kind of went through girl by girl and never had a real serious relationship. They start to notice each other more and more. Cort than gets a job at a nail salon because he is in serious need of money and its the only job in town. Of course it gets throughout the school and the girls start swarming in to get their nails done by the popular hot guy at school. Cort learns how girls really are; gossiping backstabbing girls. Cort has girls wanting him and Rachel has guys wanting her. I liked all the side characters. I loved Rachel's friends and I really liked Cort's sister. We learn that Rachel has a few secrets of her own, and Cort swears that he will show Rachel he's different from all the other guys. This story is romantic, heartfelt, wonderful, and amazing. What happens to Cort and Rachel? Do the sparks keeping flying between them or do they move onto their friends who want them? What happens with Cort's job? Is he good at nails? You need to go read the book now!

Overall: Loved it!! AMAZING!!! You need to read it now! Romantic!

Interviewing Jennifer + CONTEST

I am honored to say I was given the chance to interview Jennifer Laurens! She is the author of many books including Heavenly and Falling For Romeo! Over the course of the next month, you will see book reviews pop up on Princess Bookie of all Lauren's books!

1. Where are you from?
I grew up in Palos Verdes, California - a coastal community near Redondo Beach and L.A.
2. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor? Nora Roberts - I love Honest Illusions. It remains my favorite book to this day - superbly written.
3. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book? In Heavenly? No. I love the story and have two more books ( Penitence and Absolution ) in production to continue Zoe and Matthias' love story.
4. Do you have anything specific that you want to say to your readers? That all of my books have elements of my life and my children in them. Falling for Romeo is based on my daughter ( Jennifer's ) experience in her high school production of Romeo and Juliet. Everything in that book actually happened -- and more. I had to cut down the drama, because initial readers said, "That'd never happen!" And it did! lol
5. What inspired you to write your first book? My girls wanting clean romances to read. My standard is I would never write something I wouldn't let my own children read.
6. Tell us your latest news? I'm almost done with Absolution, the final book in the Heavenly series. Then, I'm onto my next project: either NOON or OVERPROTECTED.

I love friends, so anyone wanting to friend me on facebook or myspace who gives me Cindy's name will get a signed bookmark.
